CAMPER INFORMATION

Preparing for summer camp is an exciting time, but it can also be overwhelming for campers and their families. In order to help you make the most of your camp experience, we've put together a list of things you'll need to know before camp and what to bring to camp.

Ages and cabin groups

Starflight: Kindergarten - 2nd Grade
Adventure: 3rd Grade - 5th Grade
Discovery: 6th Grade - 8th Grade
Horizon: 9th Grade - 12th Grade


C.I.T. (Counselor in Training) positions are available for 11th & 12th graders based on maturity and leadership qualities.


P.A. (Program Aids) positions are available for 9th & 10th graders based on maturity and leadership qualities.

Packing List and Dress Code

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Box Fan

  • 6-8 T-shirts (wide strap if a tank top)

  • 6-9 pair of shorts

  • 5 white T- shirts for dinner (Or Niwana shirts)

  • 5 pair blue (navy or royal) shorts for dinner

  • 1-2 pair long pants

  • 1 lightweight jacket for cool weather

  • Swimsuit – modest cut and coverage

  • 12 – 16 pair underwear

  • 5 – 6 bras (as necessary)

  • 12 – 16 pair socks above the ankle

  • 2 pair closed toe shoes (no sandals)

  • 2 -3 pair pajamas

  • 1 set twin bed sheets

  • 1 lightweight sleeping bag or blanket

  • 1 pillow and pillowcase

  • 5 – 6 bath towels & washcloths

  • 1 – 2 beach towels for pool

  • 1 large laundry bag for dirty clothes

  • Hat for wearing in sun

  • Flashlight with new batteries

  • Non-breakable water bottle or cup to carry all day Rain coat or poncho

  • Rain boots

  • 4-6 Clothespins to hang out clothes to dry Toiletries:

  • Carrying caddy for toiletries

  • Toothbrush

  • Toothpaste

  • Shampoo & Conditioner (as necessary)

  • Soap/Body Wash

  • Deodorant (as necessary)

  • Pony tail holders (lots)

  • Hair brush

  • Sunscreen

  • Bug Spray

  • Spare glasses or contact lenses (as necessary)

WHAT NOT TO BRING:

  • Guns, knives, weapons of any type

  • Food, Candy, Gum and drinks

  • Hair dryers, curling irons, flat irons

  • Jewelry or sentimental items

  • Electronics of any type – no cell phones, laptops, tablets, ipods, radios, digital cameras, gaming devices, and nothing internet capable

Age Groups:

At Camp Niwana, we offer a wide range of programs designed to provide the best possible experience for campers of all ages. Our cabins are divided into four age groups, each designed to cater to the unique needs and interests of campers at different stages of development. Our youngest campers, in the Starflight cabins, range from Kindergarten to 2nd grade, while our Adventure cabins are designed for 3rd to 5th graders. Our Discovery cabins, for 6th to 8th graders, offer opportunities for personal growth and development. The Horizon cabin, for 9th to 12th graders, provides a more mature camp experience with challenging activities and opportunities for leadership development. Additionally, we offer C.I.T. (Counselor in Training) positions for 11th and 12th graders, based on maturity and leadership qualities. P.A. (Program Aids) positions are also available for 9th and 10th graders based on maturity and leadership qualities. We take great care to ensure that each camper is placed in a program that is both age-appropriate and aligned with their interests and skill level.

CHECK-IN

Before arriving at camp, it's important to note that check-in is separate from and different from registration. Be sure that you've completed your registration and payment in full at least two weeks before your camp date to ensure that we have accurate information for your camper. On the day of check-in, please arrive with your camper's medical form and any necessary medications, as well as any outstanding balances on your account.

WHAT TO BRING

To make the most of your time at Camp Niwana, it's important to bring the right gear. We recommend bringing a box fan, 6-8 t-shirts, 6-9 pairs of shorts, 5 white t-shirts for dinner (or Niwana shirts), 5 pairs of blue (navy or royal) shorts for dinner, 1-2 pairs of long pants, 1 lightweight jacket for cool weather, a swimsuit with modest cut and coverage, 12-16 pairs of underwear, 5-6 bras (as necessary), 12-16 pairs of socks above the ankle, 2 pairs of closed-toe shoes, 2-3 pairs of pajamas, 1 set of twin bed sheets, 1 lightweight sleeping bag or blanket, 1 pillow and pillowcase, 5-6 bath towels and washcloths, 1-2 beach towels for the pool, a hat for wearing in the sun, a flashlight with new batteries, a non-breakable water bottle or cup to carry all day, a raincoat or poncho, rain boots, 4-6 clothespins to hang out clothes to dry, and toiletries including a carrying caddy, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner (as necessary), soap/body wash, deodorant (as necessary), ponytail holders, a hairbrush, sunscreen, bug spray, and spare glasses or contact lenses (as necessary).

WHAT NOT TO BRING

It's important to note that certain items are not allowed at Camp Niwana. These include guns, knives, weapons of any type, food, candy, gum, and drinks, hair dryers, curling irons, flat irons, jewelry or sentimental items, and electronics of any type, including cell phones, laptops, tablets, iPods, radios, digital cameras, gaming devices, and anything internet capable.

ACTIVITIES

At Camp Niwana, we offer a wide range of classes and activities designed to provide a memorable summer experience for campers of all ages. From Red Cross swimming lessons and canoeing to archery, riflery, and fishing, we have plenty of outdoor activities to keep campers active and engaged. We also offer creative activities like arts and crafts, drama and theater, and outdoor cooking. Our C.I.T. Leadership Class and other programs help campers develop important leadership skills, while all-camp activities like theme dinner night and skit night encourage teamwork and cooperation. We also offer overnight campouts and a Starflight Program specifically designed for our youngest campers. We can't wait to welcome you to Camp Niwana and provide you with an unforgettable summer experience!
